Morton Grove, IL Public Storage Can’t Find a Plumber in Chicagoland, Apparently

Our Morton Grove, IL  correspondent has informed us that the Public Storage facility in that town seems to be having a problem finding a plumber in that suburb just outside of Chicago.  Are the plumbers on strike or something?  We’ve heard nothing about this!

For the past 5 or 6 days, the Morton Grove, IL Public Storage has closed down its sole toilet facility for reasons unknown.  This facility probably serves over a hundred people a day, but it has been shut down for a week while the Public Storage “management” searches for a competent plumber willing to work for peanuts.  Isn’t this some kind of health code violation?  Where are their customers supposed to “go”?   What are moving crews and the numerous landscaping crews who use this facility going to do when they find that the toilet is out of order?  They’ll probably just find a nice quiet place behind one of the stored vehicles at the place and let nature take its course!  How nice for the families who come to get their summer clothing and patio furniture out of storage!  You’d think that the scum who run Public Storage would at least have the decency to rent a port-a-potty or something so that the customers wouldn’t have to drop trou behind a car or work van and take a dump, but no!  These pigs care only about one thing: profits!  And their customers can just go to hell if they expect basic services at Public Storage in Morton Grove, IL!

Public Storage Has an “F” Rating From the Better Business Bureau!

If you’re not aware of it, there’s an organization called the “Better Business Bureau” that rates American businesses based on their ability to respond to customer complaints turned in to the bureau.  It’s a pretty lame organization and acts as if it was run by the Chamber of Commerce, but, as Wikipedia says, it “provides free business reviews on more than 4 million businesses to over 100 million requests from consumers in 2012,  helping make the BBB’s website rank among the top 300 most-visited websites in the United States.”

The Better Business Bureau is far from a consumer protection agency; in fact, when you look up your local Public Storage on the BBB’s website it probably won’t even show up, because for some strange reason, the BBB will not accept complaints for individual Public Storage offices – it collects them all and sends them to the Public Storage corporate offices in Glendale, California.

When consumers file a complaint with the BBB about a business, the organization contacts that business and relays the complaint to them; that business then has 14 days to respond to the complaint, at which time the BBB contacts the complainant and determines if the company has or hasn’t responded to the customer’s complaint in an acceptable manner, and if the customer is happy with the resolution of the issues that prompted the complaint.

Most decent businesses respond promptly to customer complaints relayed to them through the BBB.  This way, the can maintain a good rating with the Bureau, which of course reflects well upon the business in question.

The BBB’s rating system is like that for American grade school report cards: an “A” is the top rating; an “F” is the worst.

Guess what the BBB’s rating is for the Public Storage HEADQUARTERS – not just the individual locations?  “F”!

Can you believe it?  “F”! That’s right!  Public Storage has the worst possible rating any company can get, and it’s because they refuse to handle customer complaints in a responsible and honest manner.  They are a shit company and should be avoided at all costs!  This is just another reason why we say: “PUBLIC STORAGE SUCKS! ”  Caveat Emptor!

The smaller photo shows how the employees at Public Storage in Morton Grove shoveled the entrances to the storage lockers last winter.  This particular entrance was left like this for WEEKS!  People had to walk sideways to get to the door – carrying items in and out was impossible.

Public Storage Sucks Across America! New Collection of PS Complaints Found

We were searching for info on Public Storage’s corporate offices and ran across a

new website with well over 100 complaints against Public Storage posted by PS’ customers from across the USA!

The website isn’t even an actual Public Storage site; it’s one of those bogus “company info” websites that just shows the address and phone number for Public Storage’s national headquarters in California.  But apparently people hate Public Storage so much, and it’s so hard to actually find the Public Storage website and register a complaint with them that PS customers have started posting their complaints all over the web in desperation!

Here are a few of the best complaints from the site.  See if any of these customers’ complaints sound familiar to you:

[9 June 2014] “Amazingly nice staff until I discovered they broke into my storage stolen and damaged items. To date Public Storage has refused to assist with damages. Insist on small claims. The regional director and corporate staff didn’t deny it’s a problem nor denied it’s there policy to do pulmonary inventory via video surveillance when you move in. I moved over $15,000.00 worth of inventory into my unit. $1000’s stolen and damaged.”

[5 June 2014] “Outrageous Pricing – I’m a long time renter in Chicago since 2010, without missing a payment and never late. My rent has been raised 34 dollars in the last 5 months with no explanation, other than a customer service rep telling me ‘We can raise your rent whenever we feel like it, there’s no limit’ WOW. So I will be exiting as of this month. Thank you for the great relationship!”

[16 April 2014] “False Advertising. Advertise rates and then have no units of that size available. Offer introductory rates to lure new renters and hike rates for existing customers to offset revenue. POOR Can’t contact District Managers – mailboxes always filled…”

[16 April 2014]  “PS has stolen my property – PS on Carlson Blvd in Richmond, CA has stolen my property. They didn’t have an auction like they said they would.”

[10 October 2013]  “haven for burgulars – considerable items were taken at the Kapiolani storage. Was informed that the alarm system has been out of order for quite a while. Hurry for the burgulars who work for Public Storage. They climbed in from the above wired area and unhinged the lock from inside and rolled up the door and walked out.”

[21 July 2013]  “not fair public storage – My dad recently passed away and my step mother his widow went to PS and payed the bill which was in my dads name and she told them right after she payed he passed recently and they locked up the storage and will not let her get into it even though she’s payed eery month and they know her, the manager wants to see a death certifacate which we can not obtain right now cuz they still can not find the cause of death at the corner office..:( what to do?:( helpppp”

[15 July 2013]  “Mass and RI District and Regional Managers – After receiving a price on the phone for a unit, the local manager said it could not be honored. He suggested that I contact Kristi the District Manager for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Multiple phone calls to Kristi and to the Regional Manager, Jon were not returned. Their ignorance as well as their abysmal customer service lost a customer with many connections in the local community. It is apparent that customer service is not a priority of this company at the highest levels of administration.”

[5 July 2013]  “Not happy – I can say the ladies at my location are good I can rate them a 5 star they have helped me so far. on the other hand- Public Strorge raising prices is out of control.. I’ve been there for 6yrs, I will be pulling my belongings. there is no rating for Public storage. TEXAS”

[3 July 2013]  “Horrible, Horrible, Horrible – All I can say is horrible, horrible, horrible from customer service down to district manager Kurt in Morganville, NJ. From damage to my property to no consideration or empathy to help. Never again will Public Storage get my business.”

 
[2 July 2013]  “Excessive Rental Charge – Congratulations Public Storage, your have worn me out with your yearly excessive rental raises. I’ve been a long-standing tenant with superior payment record and have received no consideration. I will not recommend this company to anyone and will discourage anyone considering rentals. I will immediately attempt to evaluate my options with plans to vacate asap.”
 
[20 June 2013]  “Discourageing ANYONE interested in Storage rental from you – Congratulations! You have finally raised my storage rent to a point where I can’t afford you! No feelings or compassion for your tenants. No consideration for Senior citizens, veterans, or long time customers. Just get the money at all costs. From $73.00 to $99.00 for a 10×10 outside unit per month is RIDICULOUS by anyone’s standards. After 30+ years of patronage to your predecessors I deserved better from you. Being devoid of very little true business acumen, you could take some really good from them. Offering a rental fee of $1.00 for the first month rent is only part true and is only applicable part of the time dependent upon the number of units available at a given site. No where do you tell anyone that there is a one time “administration” fee of $20.00+ dollars to “set up your account” You really aren’t broadcasting your exorbitant late fees in your ads either–are you? Rest assured I will do everything in my power to discourage anyone from renting to anyone connected with Public Storage.”

 
[12 June 2013]  “RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! This is the only word to describe the 4 do nothings at the counter at the facility next to Home Depot. I tried to pay my bill on Sunday, the door was locked (they were at lunch, again). I came back Tuesday and was charged a huge late fee for being one day late. When I called to complain, the girl hung up on me. I am putting my stuff in another facility (not Public Storage) at the end of the month. After 2 years, I wouldn’t give them another penny.”
What a great company Public Storage is, eh?  The tirades go on and on – 9 more pages of this just on this website alone!  New Jersey, Texas, Hawaii, Illinois; it’s not just a case of a handful of rogue franchisees causing all the problems – the entire company sucks!  And these complaints are posted in a place that IS NOT EVEN A COMPANY WEBSITE!  People hate Public Storage so much that they’re putting their bad reviews for the company everywhere!
And Public Storage is an equal opportunity criminal enterprise: disabled people, the elderly, women, men, black, white and EVEN THE DEAD – Public Storage robs us all and treats everyone – regardless of age, race, creed or color – with the same contempt and disrespect.

[UPDATED!] Public Storage Deceptive Business Practices: Not Notifying Customers of Date of Impending Auctions

[UPDATED 30 April 2014 (see below)]

We’ve been following the slow progress of one of our correspondents’ attempts to keep their personal belongings from being legally stolen by Public Storage in Morton Grove, IL.   This person reports to us this week that although the managers at Public Storage have related in phone conversations that the auction is scheduled for the 23rd of April, no written notice of this auction has been received, and though Public Storage has sent him several emails warning that an auction “is scheduled” not one of these emails has stated the exact date for that auction.  In addition, when this long-term customer of the company goes to their website to see what is owed on the storage unit, the website mentions nothing at all about a pending auction nor does it give the scheduled date of that auction.  These are screenshots of the Public Storage website showing this customer logged in to their account information:

Two days before scheduled auction of customer’s belongings, the customer’s Public Storage account page gives only vague warning of impending doom.

This is clearly a very deceptive move by Public Storage – they make it look like it’s “business as usual” as far as the customer can tell.  There are no big warning notices that an auction has already been scheduled – and is due to take place in 48 hours if FULL PAYMENT isn’t made!  And this document shows how long this “loyal” customer has been renting this space from Public Storage – since January of 2009!  Thus, in spite of the fact that this customer has been a long-time customer and has paid the bill every month for over 5 years – a grand total of at least $12,000.00 – Public Storage REFUSES TO ALLOW THIS CUSTOMER TO MAKE PAYMENTS on an arrears of just $780.75 and is set to legally steal this customer’s belongings and sell them at an auction as if they were abandoned property!  This is highway robbery!  And they refuse to work out a way for this customer to keep their property!  “Storage Wars”?  It should be “Storage Pirates”!

We’ll keep you posted if we receive any news on this case in the next 2 days.

UPDATE:  Our correspondent reports that they were able to come up with the money to pay off the prates at Public Storage the day before the scheduled auction on April 23, 2014; however, there was a strange wrinkle to the end of the story.

When this person went in to pay the bill and inquired about the scheduled auction date, the Public Storage employee on duty stated that the auction had been postponed for a month – until late May.  This customer had not been notified by mail, email or any other method of communication from Public Storage to this effect.  The customer asked for a copy of the document stating that the auction had been rescheduled; the PS employee replied: “I can’t print this out for you, the computer won’t allow it”.  Unable to verify that the auction had, in fact, been postponed a month, the customer elected to pay the amount past due, settling the case.  All of the property that Public Storage had essentially confiscated from this customer for the past two months was found intact as it had been left by the customer, in his storage unit.

The customer told us that the reason that he did not believe the PS employee when he told the customer that the auction was rescheduled was because “you simply can not trust these people to tell you the truth”.  The experience this customer went through with the managers of the Public Storage facility in Morton Grove, IL was of such an acrimonious nature that this customer no longer believes a word they say.  “What if I was to wait, assuming that there had been a new auction date set and just took the employees’ word for it?  How do I know that it wasn’t just a trick to get me to not pay the rent on time, and then Public Storage would just go ahead and auction off my stuff anyway?”

It’s a very valid point; and in fact we have received another communication from another source in Morton Grove who told us that he overheard a woman telling someone on the phone that she had just been swindled out of her prized family memorabilia by an unnamed storage company in Morton Grove that misled her about the scheduled auction date for her property.  They told her that she had several weeks before an auction would be scheduled; then when she had raised enough money to pay for her rent, and went to pay the bill in person, she was informed that the storage company had “moved up the date” of the auction and had, in fact, sold her property.  In this case, we have been unable to confirm that she had been victimized by Public Storage; but we relay it to our readers in order to warn you that these self-storage companies are turning into a bunch of wolves who are out to legally STEAL YOUR STUFF!
